Structured indoor and outdoor sessions, a plan that adapts to your week, and your riding connected to your strength, running and recovery. Underneath, we're testing a more individual way to guide training: by metabolic state rather than fixed zones. Early days — join us.
Most training is guided by a percentage of FTP — the same chart handed to everyone. It's a useful map. But the effort where you actually burn fat, or tip into lactate, is individual, and it moves with your fitness, your fatigue, and the day you're having. The physiology here draws on the work of Iñigo San Millán; the two ideas below are the reason we think it's worth building around.
To be clear about where this stands: the science is real, our implementation is early and improving. We're going down this path because it's sensible — and we'd rather build it in the open, with riders and coaches, than pretend it's finished.
The loop a coach runs with you — plan a block, ride the sessions, look at what happened, adjust. Some of this is here today; some is early. We've tried to be clear which is which.
Your cycling sits in a plan alongside the rest of your training, so a session has an intent — build the base, or sharpen — not just a number to hit.
A live ride screen walks you through the session with coach cues, segments and a debrief — riding to on-screen targets, on whatever setup you have.
Your ride is scored for training load and read alongside your other sports, so a heavy week doesn't blindside you and an easy one is on purpose.
Slept badly, raced the weekend, legs flat? The plan bends around it — the aim is the honest dose, not forcing a number you shouldn't chase today.
The part we're still refining: reading each ride by metabolic state, and tracking the equilibrium ceiling — the power you can hold in balance — as a personal number that should sharpen as you train. It's early, and it gets better the more people ride with us.
You don't need to be deep into numbers to get something out of it. Structured sessions, a plan that bends around your week, and your riding kept in the same picture as the rest of your training — whether you're spinning easy base miles or chasing a target.
Sessions aren't fixed workouts. Open one and rebuild it block by block — add an interval set, choose the zone, set the recovery — or type what you want in plain language and let Athlea rework the session in place. Prefer to stay hands-off? Your plan tunes the next one from how this one went.
Your prescription shouldn't die on a spreadsheet. Athlea Pro lets you author a session once and deliver it to every athlete, right-sized to their level and FTP, with the metabolic-state thinking carried along. It's early — and we're building the coach side with founding coaches, not presenting it as finished.
A quick, honest inventory of what the coaching draws on. We'd rather show you the parts and their state than sell a finished engine.
A chatbot can talk. A cycling app can track and guide a ride. Athlea is built to do both — and to keep your riding in one picture with the rest of your training. Where a column earns its tick, we've given it.
This is a small, early group. Riders get in first and steer what gets built next; coaches get founding access to Pro and a direct line to the people doing the metabolic-state work. What you tell us genuinely moves the roadmap — including which smart trainers we support first.
It's in private beta. Join the beta and we'll bring you in as we open access.
Both. Guided sessions on the trainer indoors, and GPS-recorded rides outdoors — held in one plan rather than two apps that don't talk.
No. Today you ride to on-screen targets on whatever setup you have. Automatic erg control — a smart trainer holding your target watts for you — is on the roadmap, not shipped yet.
Athlea is iOS (iPhone) today; Android is on the roadmap. It syncs with Apple Health and connects to Garmin. Strava import isn't in yet — say so if it matters to you.
Your FTP goes in at setup, and session targets scale from there. The metabolic-state read is the early, experimental part — it improves as we refine it. A lactate test can anchor it, but is never required.
Everyone, casual to competitive. Targets are relative to your own fitness, so the same session works for a first indoor block and for someone with a race coming up.
Yes. Your cycling is read alongside your strength, running, recovery and nutrition, so your week adds up instead of pulling in different directions.
If your coach is on Athlea Pro, their sessions and plans flow into your app; if they're not, you can invite them. The coach side is early too, and we're building it with founding coaches.
No. It gives you a plan and guided sessions on your own — it just gets better when a coach is on the other side.
Pricing is not published while Athlea is in private beta. Join the waitlist and you will see the plans before anything is charged.
