Most apps tell you what you ate.
Athlea tells you why it matters — and what to do with it.

Food, training, recovery, and supplementation aren't separate problems. Athlea treats them as one — with data, citations, and a coach that sees all of it.

01Evidence layer

Food data you can
actually verify.

Every food carries its USDA nutrient profile, its source, and a confidence level. Research linking — the papers behind a food, with DOIs you can open — is being wired from the same graph that powers Athlea Research.

USDA FoodData Central
The scientific standard. Nutrient profiles traced to the source — not a proprietary database where anyone can edit an entry.
Research linked
Sourced citations linked to food items in the graph. Each citation carries a DOI and links to the original study.
Source-tagged search results
Every food result shows its data origin — USDA, Edamam Branded, M&W, CIQUAL, or BLS. You know exactly where the number came from.
Provenance
Results tagged USDA · Edamam Branded · M&W · CIQUAL · BLS. Confidence level visible on every row: high (graph-sourced) → medium → low.

02Dynamic fueling

Your targets move
because your training does.

Athlea calculates your baseline and then adjusts it every day based on what you actually did or are about to do. A strength session, a long run, and a rest day each carry different demands. Your nutrition prescription reflects that.

Training-load adjustment
TRIMP modifier from your session shifts macro targets on hard days. Rest days return to baseline automatically.
Pre-session fueling
Carbs and protein timed to the session your coaches see ahead. No guessing when to eat or how much.
Deficit awareness
The Nutrition coach flags when you're in a deficit before a demanding block — before you feel the effects.
03WADA-grounded screening

Know what's in it.
Before you take it.

Search any supplement — generic substance or branded product — and get an ingredient-by-ingredient WADA clearance check. Backed by the DSLD database. Not an opinion. Not a forum post.

Branded product screening
Search a product by name. Every ingredient is cross-referenced against the NIH DSLD database — not just the active compounds on the label.
Per-ingredient WADA verdict
Not Listed, Monitored, Prohibited, or Unknown — surfaced per ingredient, not per product. One prohibited ingredient changes the verdict for the whole product.
The graph adds molecular depth
As PubChem compound links go live, each ingredient will carry a canonical chemical ID for molecular-level verification — beyond label names alone.

Why the wording matters
Absence from the WADA Prohibited List is a dated fact, not a guarantee, and we’re moving our in-app verdicts to say exactly that. Check your federation’s rules before you compete.

04Gut health science

Thirty plants a week.
Wider is better.

Macro tracking tells you how much. Plant diversity tracking tells you how varied. Athlea counts distinct plant species in your weekly log and tracks your progress toward 30 — a target grounded in gut microbiome research, not a round number someone invented.

Species-level counting
Oats and quinoa are both grains but count as two different species. Every distinct plant in your log moves the counter.
The recovery angle
Gut microbiome diversity correlates with reduced inflammation and faster recovery between hard sessions. More plants, more species, better recovery signal.
Research basis
Sonnenburg et al. 2022 (Cell), Spector 2020 (Gut Health Diet). The 30-plant target is derived from British Gut Project data — not marketing.
05Nutrition coach

The coach that talks
to every other coach.

Your Nutrition coach participates in the same thread as your Strength, Running, and Recovery coaches. Pre-session fueling is coordinated with your strength prescription. Post-run recovery windows are set with your running load data. No separate app. No tab. One conversation.

Competitor gap
MyFitnessPal
Good food log. Static daily targets with no training-load adjustment and no WADA screening.
Cronometer
Detailed micronutrient tracking. No coaching layer, no cross-domain coordination, no plant diversity.
Whoop
Recovery load signal. Not a full nutrition stack — no meal log, no WADA, no coach in the conversation.
SC
Strength coach
Upper done. Bench 80kg × 6, clean reps. Volume logged automatically.

Recovery window open. 30–40g protein in the next 30 minutes. You're in a slight deficit today — don't skip it.
ME
Can I skip dinner tonight? I'm not that hungry.
NC
Nutrition coach
Not tonight. HRV is tracking low and you have a run tomorrow. Eat the meal — the protein supports overnight repair from today's session.
RC
Running coach
Agreed. Tomorrow is a 45-minute S2 effort. Under-fuelled legs will mean you don't reach the target zone.
ME
What should I eat before tomorrow's run?
NC
Nutrition coach
60–90 minutes before: 40–50g carbs, low fibre, low fat. Toast with banana and honey. Fast fuel, easy to digest.
